Keeping up to date with the current fashion designing trends can be quite tricky, as everything moves pretty quickly in the world of fashion. As 2023 quickly approaches, brands ranging from bargain to luxurious haute couture are showcasing their 2023 collections, and we’ve already seen some exciting new styles and trends that will surely be everywhere. 

Here, we’ve made a list of all the biggest new trends we expect to see over the course of next year and if there is one thing we are sure of, is that the trends next year are going to be bigger and better than ever, with a distinct throwback to the nostalgic fashion days. Here are some of the factors that would play a big role in shaping the future of the fashion industry.

1.Office Wear Re-Imagined

When Covid-19 hit the world, the concept of working from home was popularised and people started prioritising comfortable, lounge, clothing which began a shift in the fashion industry towards casual fashion. Now, with the hybrid work model being introduced, a professional wardrobe has been re-imagined to suit your work location and schedule. 

With the introduction of the remote or hybrid working option, people want to look good and feel good with comfortable clothing. As back-breaking styles are fading out slowly, we see a new category of style in the industry that showcases a more elevated version of the WFH-wear. Instead of the traditional suit and tie, professionals can now wear comfortable and stylish blazers paired with a casual button-up shirt and jeans for a more relaxed yet professional look. This allows individuals to seamlessly transition from their home office to in-person meetings without feeling out of place or uncomfortable. 

2.Capitalising On Nostalgia

Fashion design trends recycled from the 20th century are seeing a rise in popularity, being passed off as ‘vintage’ and ‘cool’ in the name of nostalgia. Although there were some trends that were created in the 2020s, people yearned for simpler times and brands took notice. 

The fashion industry took a moment to reflect and dive into their own memory box, looking for inspiration on how to adapt to the new era. Since the golden olden days have always made everyone feel and look good, brands were greatly influenced from past decades to create new collections and initiate new trends. For example, some designers are bringing back iconic styles from the 1960s, such as psychedelic prints and bold patterns, while others are taking inspiration from the grunge and punk movements of the 1990s, with oversized jackets, plaid shirts, and distressed denim making a comeback. These nods to the past not only capitalise on nostalgia but also provide a sense of comfort and familiarity in an ever-changing world.

3.Cottagecore Making A Comeback

Cottagecore is a concept that embraces a simpler, sustainable existence that is more harmonious with nature. In the fashion industry, it is a nod to the traditional English countryside style which is both romantic and nostalgic. The rise in popularity of this fashion aesthetic can be attributed back to 2020 when many from the city escaped to the countryside due to Covid-19 and shows like Bridgerton blew up. 

For 2023, we see brands embracing floral print frocks, puff-sleeve dresses, corsets, Peter-Pan blouses, and even handmade pieces like quilted coats and quirky necklaces. Accessories are an essential part and brands are embracing this by introducing a range of whimsical headbands, vintage-inspired scarves, and statement jewellery pieces that perfectly complement the overall look. The beauty of the Cottagecore trend lies in its versatility, making it easy to incorporate into any wardrobe, whether it be for a romantic picnic in the park or a casual stroll through the countryside.

As we look towards 2023, we see a distinct trend of nostalgia and comfort taking centre stage. Whether it's re-imagined office wear that caters to the hybrid work model or a resurgence of vintage-inspired styles such as Cottagecore, designers are creating pieces that not only look good but also feel good to wear. As we move forward, it will be exciting to see how these trends continue to shape the future of the fashion industry.
